8.5 contains several hundred bug fixes as well as new content. To see information about 8.5 check out these links:

My understanding is that it is one of the most stable initial releases to come out in a long time. I'll be able to answer definitively in a few weeks when I finish upgrading my current client to 8.5

I have just learned of one customer having QualityStage issues after a do-it-yourself upgrade, in particular with the Match Designer test utility, but this customer happily admits that the problem could be between the keyboard and the chair. Will be reviewing their system some time this month.

Hi we (with an IBM consultant) have just upgraded from 8.1 to 8.5 and we have a number of issues. We are on Solaris and we are using Oracle for the repository.

So far we have the following problems:

1) Can't import table defs using Connector Import Wizard ODBC driver (Oracle). The database parameter is blank. On top of this, a fatal java error occurs if the table def already exists.
2) There is a new unicode varchar checkbox on the columns load tab on links. If you check it (the default) you will get typecast errors in your 8.1 jobs (ustring to string).
3) If you edit the SCD stage surrogate key tab, the configuration is lost and the job will fail to compile.
4) We are receiving SIGSEV aborts on certain dataset stages. Deleting and rebuilding the stages resolves the problem.
5) Import Export Manager is unable to import Cognos Packages.

Your mileage may vary.

Was your old installation NLS enabled? If they installed NLS on 8.5 that would cause the Unicode issue.
