Post by mukejee »

Is there any way to avoid the refreshing of director for some times while running the job for a long time

Right, set the interval higher or turn the refresh off altogether. And on the off chance you think you need to leave the Director open after starting a job until it completes - you don't.

I'd like to turn the automatic refreshing off, but in tools>options i have only the possibility to set the interval to sth. between 2 and 65 seconds, but how can I disable it?

Close Director.

Minimizing Director comes close. But it's not as good as closing it.

Yes I'm serious. Every Director refresh is effectively a request back to the server to "stop what you're doing and give me an update". If Director is not running, these interruptions don't occur.

Thank you. I searched the Documentation and it sais I have to set the variables using the DS Administrator. But I cannot find any of that variables there and if I try to add APT_MONITOR_TIME, I get an error message that sais "An environment variable of that name already exists". I also searched the systems environment variables. I have full access to the system. What can I do?

We are running Ascential DataStage 7.5 on Win 2003 Server.

Later versions of Director no longer have this check box, but you can still disable it in the registry. Open Notepad, save a file called "stoprefresh.reg" with this contents, and double-click it:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ascential Software\DataStage Client\Director]
"StopRefresh"="1"
Or, just find the right place using Regedit and enter it manually if you are comfortable with that.

You might need to pick a fight with your desktop support administrators if they've locked you down tighter than a duck's... er... feathers.

Really, I wonder why they decided to do away with that. :?

Does "later versions" mean 8 and up?

I'm running 7.5.1.A and I see it, but a colleague was running 7.5.2 and he didn't have the option so I made the .reg file for him.

p.s. why is General the wrong section? Director is for both server and parallel, isn't it?

Yes, we're fine with this discussion here. Questions about the client tools, Sequence jobs, generic DataStage questions and the like are all best placed here.

And now that I ponder it, all I can swear to is it still being there in 7.5.1a. I only had 7.5.2 installed for a few of days on a test Itanium server before they reclaimed the hardware so perhaps never noticed that option being gone.
