DB2 to IMS

Post by yuva010 »

Hi,
Using datastage can I to ETL from DB2 to IMS?
I know I can surely extract from DB2.
So the left part is, can I load in IMS using DataStage?
Thanks,
Yuva.

The "from DB2" part, as you have noted, is of course doable. "To IMS", can't really be done (90% sure) directly, but I would think we can output data in IMS format to a file and load it into mainframe using NDM.
It took me fifteen years to discover I had no talent for ETL, but I couldn't give it up because by that time I was too famous.

DataStage *can* work with IMS datasets and viewsets. But you will need to use a "mainframe" job (extra cost) to do so. As the name suggests, a mainframe job runs on the mainframe - DataStage generates COBOL source plus JCL to compile and run the same.

what is NDM? I can understand loading in flat file from DB2. But from DB2 to IMS how can I go?
And Flat File structure needs to be Like Mainframe? exactly how can I get that structure?
Thanks,
Yuva.
