Data type interpretation and manipulation

i have a month to date field which is assisgned a metadata "Number(5)" in datastage . I would like to add this to a field assigned a metadata "Date" in datastage . I dont understand whats a "month to date " data ? how this data would be wrt to the metadata that i have given


I have some ODBC issues reported when i try to view the data from the stage but before that can somebody give me some idea about what the month to date data would look like ? ? ?

Source database? Actual data type? :?

Is this some kind of INTERVAL data type?

The source database is SQL server database The source datatype is SQL server date datatype
