How to Merge Changed Metadata

Some column names and other properties have changed in the database tables. Attempting to re-import the table definitions does not appear to pick up the changes. Is there a way to pick up the changes without deleting the existing table definitions in XMETA? We have a lot of FastTrack mappings and Information Analyzer tasks that depend on these and obviously don't want to lose those linkages and do all that work again!
