Pointing IA to different environments

Post by truenorth »

How do you use IA for different environments, e.g., production, development, test? I understand IA, and all of IS for that matter, is projects-based. So is that it? Have a DEV project that connects to development, PROD to production, etc?

It's a tricky one to fit into an architecture because it doesn't really need the dev/test/prod environments that DataStage has since it is not directly processing data. If you use it just as an SDLC support tool for table and column analysis it can sit in dev and point at any database you want - including test and prod databases during testing and reconciliation phases, managing this through different projects on that same server. If you want it as a data quality monitoring and reporting tool than you may want it on a production server due to issues such as security and reliability.

We will use IA as a DQ monitoring and reporting tool. The main idea is to be able to reuse jobs created in one environment - say in dev - and easily "scale" them to production.
