Hi, I see that Lola Ball had a problem below & also mentioned that she couldnt get her job to stop. I too am unable to stop the job run in Director, but Im pretty sure the DS server went down during this jobs run. But I didnt see an answer to the unstoppable job below so: is it possible for a DS User (not root or Admin) to stop a job when the hardware went down during its run? Or is it already stopped, & can I just run the job again, which is what I need to do? Will it run & the data be ok? The message a stop request for job nnnn has been sent to the server does generate in Director. Thanks for your help!

Seema,

When you connect to a DataStage Server from your Client PC you connect as a particular User then as far as the server is concered you have those rights & privledges that have been assigned to that user (Either by the OS or by Datastage/Universe).

When you schedule a Datastage Job then when it starts it connects as a User. Then if it has insufficient Rights the job would proberly fail to start.

There is anther area that you could check and that is in Project Administration => Properties => Schedule.

I have not used this setting but I surgest that you use the Test & Help Buttons.

One other thing that may be note worthy I remember that when changing the attributes of the Schedule Service on NT3.51 It would not perform as expected until I bounced the Box (Shutdown & Restart), this may have been rectified by stopping and re-starting the service but if you have the machine to yourself I would bounce it.

In your position I would:
- set the schedule service back to Local System Account
- Bounce the Box
- Use Project Administration => Properties => Schedule.
In the First Instance
- Use your Own Credentials
- Try the test Button (Asscert Success)
- Schedule A job.
Now that this works :-)
- Use your Preferred Credentials
- Try the test Button (Asscert Success)
- Schedule A job.

Please let me know how you go.

Jack.

Hello! This is my first time posting to this list, so I hope that this is the correct protocol to follow.

We are running DataStage 4.0.2 on an NT 4.0 box. I have a job that I have been playing around with that had been having some performance issues. I started running it yesterday morning, and it stopped processing after it reached 650,000 rows out of 2.5 million rows. I got errors such as the
following:

"Error calling subroutine [either DSR_LOG or DSR_EXECJOB] (Action=3); check if DataStage set up correctly in project DWDEV. (Internal Error 81021)."

Anyway, the job still shows as running in the status, and despite multiple attempts to stop the job, it will not stop.

What should I do?

Thank you!

Yes, you can do either

EQUATE Tab TO CHAR(009)

or you can get the tab character into your paste buffer and explicitly paste it into a string within the design tool.

I had the same problem yesterday and received this answer:

"Cleanup Resources" command in Director. Just be careful to only kill the job that you want killed. If there are no processes or locks for the job, then its already stopped. If it still appears as "running", then you have to use the "Clear Status File" command. (From Anthony, akerschen@harland.net)

Thanks, Ken, & Anthony. I am not familiar with the Cleanup Resource but I see blank windows with show by job on, & still no job corresponding to my DS jobname with show all on instead. There is a PID# in Processes by my userid (I guess thats my current logon to DS only.) So this means a rerun is ok & the job is really stopped then, correct?

Theresa, It sounds like the job is in fact stopped, if the only PID is your director session.

I think Rays message from yesterday had the best explaination of how to deal with this problem. The only thing I would add is that I usually re-compile a job after clearing its status.

"Ray Wurlod" on 04/17/2001 09:31 AM ZE10

Sometimes (hopefully rarely) a jobs status remains Running even though all of its stages have finished. This is caused by a child process (one that runs an active stage) signalling its parent that it has finished, but the signal getting lost in the O/S. In this case the following may help.

Use the Monitor in Director to determine that the stages have all finished. The process ID of each active stage is obtained in the Monitors detail view (double click on a stage name).

Allow enough time for any after-job subroutine to finish.

Use O/S tools (ps in UNIX, Task Manager in WinNT) to ensure that the job is no longer consuming resources (if its executing an after-job subroutine it will be - in this case check for infinite loops in the after-job subroutine code).

Then, if the job is not consuming resources, use "Clear Status File" in Director to reinstate a "runnable" state for the job.
