Mainframe Sort Routines

Hi,
We are just starting a project using DataStage/XE 390 and are wondering whether people are using the sort routine that comes with DataStage Mainframe as opposed to doing the sort directly from JCL using the mainframe sort. The DataStage sort routine does use the mainframe sort through the use of calls, however we are finding that it takes some time longer than the JCL direct sort.
Any other people out there using DataStage/390?
