Administering Datastage Other than root

Post by admin »

Hello All,

We are running DataStage on a HP-UX box.

Anytime we invoke Datastage Administrator as any user other than root. We get the message: "Error calling subroutine: *DataStage*DSR.ADMIN (Action=2); check DataStage is set up correctly in project devt (Subroutine failed to complete successfully (30107))"

Then loads up with the
=>Projects=>Add
=>Delete
Buttons whited out.

Has any-one been able to make Datastage Administrator fully functional for anyone other than root.

I ask this because once the Environment is commissioned we will lose the root password. But we would like to be able to create and delete projects ourselves.

Thanks Jack

Jack,

I dont think you will have much luck with DS Administrator w/o root access, but I
have a suggestion that may help.

See if the Unix admin group will allow you a "root equivalent" id. Any Unix user with
uid of 0 has the same access as root. This additional id could be activated by

the Admin group for a specific number of hours when you need to use the DS Administrator.

This has no impact on the root user id (because is the first id with uid 0 in the passwd file) and enables the Unix Admin group to offer "root" type of access, but not give out the actual
password for root.

Non-root administration is slated to be in DS release 5.1.
