Jobs Lock

Hi,

We are facing the problem of job locks, Once the job locked we cannot use it, It gives the message Cannot get exclusive access to job jobname

Is there anyone who knows solution for this problem.

Have you tried

"8. Clear locks held by all processes in a job"

in DS.TOOLS?

If this does not work, get back to us as there are other things that can be done.

Theres probably no single solution.

You could use the Director option Cleanup Resources to view all locks on the system, or use DS.TOOLS menu on the server as an interactive UniVerse user. This will allow you to identify the lock on the job (see the record ID) and the process ID of the process holding that lock. Then you must determine what this process is doing. For example, if it is also holding a RL lock called project.&!DSADMIN!& then it is a connected DataStage client (Director, Designer or Manager). On the server such a process is executing uvapi_server or uvapi_slave. If a job is open in Designer, or its properties are open in Manager, or it is being monitored (Monitor view in Director) then the job is locked.

Should the lock be held by a process that is no longer a DataStage process (the process does not appear in the list of DataStage processes) then the lock can be released. In this case a process has become defunct on your system, possibly for reasons outside the control of DataStage, such as transient network failure.

Hi David,

In Jobresources window, there is nothing for process and locks and Release All button is disabled. So I think this will not help.

Thats why David suggested using the DS.TOOLS menu on the server.

Are these the same jobs you earlier described as "hanging"? If so, have you upgraded from 3.6.3 to DS 3.6.3r2 so that the patch to fix the hanging problem can be installed?

Hi Ray,

This problem is different from hanging, which is not yat resolved. Once the job locks , means it becomes dead, not usable.
