It can be done yes. Datastage Manager - Export - Datastage Components

On this screen you can choose if you want to export the "whole project" or just one "job design" Ive done this succesfully. You might have to go to Options and enable
(click) "By individual component". I had to do this because my version of Datastage defaulted to exporting the entire project only.

Hope this helps.

Hi again,

Can we export only one job from a project that have many jobs? Is dsexport limited by project, or we can achieve one job inside the project?

Thanks

Thanks Dirk, but there any utility that enables that in Unix shell? I have read the dsexport parameters and seems like it cant do that.

THERE IS NO UNIX (server) SIZE EXPORT IN DATASTAGE!
YOU MUST INCUR ALL NETWORK OVERHEAD GOING BETWEEN YOUR
PC AND THE SERVER. THERE IS NO METHOD IN THE BASE
DATASTAGE PACKAGE. SORRY. HEAVEN FORBID YOU ARE
DIALED-UP ON A 56K MODEM. ALL EXPORT LOGIC IS IN YOUR
GUI Manager client (fat client model instead of thin),
so too bad.

You might check out the version control package ASCL offers...you might find it better on exports

Good luck!

You could write one - The issue would be keeping it up to date. You could test your code by exporting it via the client method and then with your code and diff the results.

The job designs are passed to your DS Manager client,
where the design information is then encoded by VB
logic into the dsx or xml formats. Almost no activity
takes place server side.

If you write your own server side export logic, you
will have to recode all of that VB code into Universe
BASIC so that you reproduce the dsx or xml formats
exactly. If you choose your own format, you will have
an easier time of it. The problem becomes importing,
as a custom export format will not be version
friendly. At least the dsx or xml formats allow older
jobs to be upgraded. Writing your own really locks
you into your specific version. Not that I havent
done that already.....

I have put my 2cents worth in with engineering for
totally changing the export logic. If you have
recommendations I encourage you to give feedback. I
think anyone who has tried an export or import via
dial-up to know what Im talking about. Leaving a PC
logged in to do unmonitorred exports is another
security issue, not to mention a pain in the butt.

Good luck!

Export only one Job

Post by admin »

I would have used server side routines to do this and then these could have been called from a suitably defined server routine to do the same thing.

dsexport exports the whole project.
The only way (at DS 4.2) to export individual components is using Manager.
Locked
