I believe there are more than 50 customers using MetaStage. In short,
MetaStage provides the following benefits:
- meta-data exchange (import/export) between data-modelling tools, ETL tool
(DataStage) and OLAP front end tools
- impact analysis - e.g. which datastage job or which BI analysis reports
will be affected if I change one of the column in my Erwin design.

Re[2]: What is MetaStage

thats a good point talking about MetaStage. In my client we have installed MetaStage, and I had a 1 one week course of MetaStage here in Portugal.
Our installation here was made by two Ascential Techniques from USA.
This is our configuration
MetaStage 2.1R4 running on Windows NT 4.0 SP6
MetaStage Unix Process MetaBroker installed on DS development domain Pentium III 733mhz, 512 mb RAM, 523 mb pagefile DataStage 4.0 on Solaris 2.6 Repository in Oracle 8.1.6 Oracle ODBC driver 8.1.06.00
Even after the course Im still not sure that MetaStage would be prepared to be un important tool for a company:
1 - Importing big projects
We tried do import into MetaStage a project with almost 200 jobs and this always got memory problems. MetaStage imports all the jobs, table definitions and routines to memory first so it needs a big amount of memory in the import process. Only after this its possible to filter. We are using a computer with 512 MB and it was impossible to import the project. The solution used by the Ascential techniques was create two temporary projects: one to divide the 200 jobs into categorys 1-20 (jobs), (21-40) (jobs),
(41-60) jobs etc. The other project is to have only one category at a time to export to MetaStage. This problem avoid people to import big MetaStage problems in a simple away. I hope next version could have this problem resolved.
2 - Looking for MetaStage in a functional way we dont have a relevant experience. But we can find some problems:
- The actual version doesnt have a MetaBroker to MicroStrategy
- To achieve a real impact analysis between the changes in the Erwin design we must have the same names or similar in the columns of the tables and field reports. Than we can use find tool combining to I/A.
3 - Anyone knows how many successfully installations around the world have Ascential?
Does anyone have more experience in MetaStage, in this case its important to share it.
