2 versions of DS on same machine

Post by admin »

I understand that NT being the way it is prevents you from having two versions of DataStage running on the same server. For example, version 3.1 and 3.6.2.

Not being a Unix person, I was wondering if the Unix world can have this scenario? Could you have two versions of DataStage running on one Unix box? The reason Im asking is that upgrading requires a test environment. In the NT world, this means an extra server. Is the same true in the Unix world?

Thanks.

You can have two versions installed on one machine, but only one can be active at once.

The main reason for this is that the location of the server engine directory is recorded in a non-negotiable location (/.uvhome on UNIX machines, in the registry on a Windows NT machine). There are other reasons, which I wont bore you with here.

We have one machine in the support group with eight different versions of DataStage installed. But only one at a time can be used.
