Jobs Hangs

Post by admin »

Hi,

We have around 1000 jobs running in production,
We are facing the problem of jobs hanging.
Some jobs hangs and there after all our process stops.

Is there anyone who knows solution for this.

You are in luck. I believe the Informix basically have the hanging problem cracked.

Questions...
What version of DataStage?
Do you run multiple jobs in parallel? (Or have jobs with a lot of parallel
stages?)
Do you use a multi processor server?

Depending on your answers (ie is it the usual hanging problem that others have experienced), the solution may be a patch to 4.01 the soon to be released 4.02.

When a job hangs, does a monitor show one or more stages with a status of "Starting"?

If so, probably you are going to need the patch I was referring to. Definitely time to log it with Informix (hopefully you have done this already - I have found their DataStage support very good, at least in Australia, anyway). However, I believe it is fairly difficult (but not
impossible) to get this error on a single CPU server unless you deliberately design a job to do it. Is it a very fast single CPU?

Alternately, does the Monitor show all stages with a status of Finished, yet the status view show the job status as Running? This is a symptom of a different problem, yet one that you might perceive as a "job hang". Alas, the original note is not very informative about what is meant by "hung" - for example are any of the processes involved consuming CPU (see Windows NT Task Manager - Processes tab if youre on WinNT).

Thanks, David, for your imprimatur for our support organization. Australia provides DataStage support for the whole of the Asia-Pacific region. Curiously, perhaps, there have been no calls logged by DB Singapore in the past three months.
