Accessing DS via VPN

Post by admin »

We currently maintain our offsite support of our DataStage applications via a traditional dial-up to a network. Our support laptop has DataStage Client installed and away we go.

We will soon have our dial-up method replaced with a Virtual Private Network (VPN), that were supposed to all check with via Internet Access.

Has anyone done this? More important, do you need DataStage Client installed on the PC you access the VPN with or is it to be installed on the Server your VPN is installed/run on?

Thanks.

I wouldnt have thought that anything changes in your configuration, ie DataStage client still runs on the client PC. However, Id be interested in performance. DataStage is passable on a 28.8k dial up, but over the Internet?? How about you let this group know how it goes when you have it set up.

Good luck.

I access DataStage server via VPN over
128kbps ISDN (over the Intenet) with very good
results in terms of performance. In fact, I now do
a lot of my Designer programming remotely. There
was no special setup on the client side as long as
it "thinks" it is all part of the same network and
can access the DS server.

Just thought I would share....

I have been using an ISDN line to work remotely for several years and when we started using DataStage a year and a half ago there were no problems at all, just like sitting at my desk in the office. Now I am using a dial in setup which is a little slower just until we get the VPN set up. P.S. I never go in to the office any more, I work solely from home, ya baby!!!!!!

To Mark & Mark:

Thanks for the feedback on VPN access. I also heard from Informix/Ardent Support that as long as I had the client DataStage software on my dial-in laptop, were fine. Phew! We just get it workin with dial-in and they (our Security dept) go and change it on us. ;-)
