Hi
We did the same thing, i.e. installed Datastage without installing the NLS pack. What we did is put the installation CD again and start the repair option and just select the NLS option this time.
the only difference is we have Windows.

there is no reason to install NLS in this case, none at all!

I don't have any Oracle access at the moment, but the solution/problem lies in your session environment settings for Oracle - they are causing the character conversions. I am sure someone more knowledgeable will jump in later with the details; but going to NLS is an irreversible step that is only necessary in a few situations where you need to deal with and process different character sets. You are only working in one character set.

Thanks guys, it's good to know i don't have to reinstall DataStage anyway, i wasn't looking forward to that.

My first thought was that it was an Oracle issue, so i'll keep plugging away in that direction.

Thanks for the replies.

If anyone else has any advice, that would be great.

If/when i find the solution i'll post it here for future reference...

You seem to be in a similar boat that I am at the moment. :wink:

See if anything in this post helps.

thanks for the help chaps.

problem resolved by inserting the following line into the .profile:

export NLS_LANG="ENGLISH_UNITED KINGDOM.WE8ISO8859P1";

i then restarted DataStage and all was fine.

thanks
