Error reading passwd file

Hi all.. I've a job which runs daily. This job invokes a stored procedure, passing a date parameter. Today's run took a long time (actually, the status is still running altho' nothing's going on). The DBA checked the DB and saw no activity on the SP. I saw this msg in the &PH& directory:
/apps/opt/etldata/NORM_PROD/&PH&>cat DSD.StageRun_32661_13836
Error reading passwd file.
[ESRCH] No such process
The job was rerun successfully. But we want to find out what caused the above error. An Ascential engineer is currently looking into this already. Any of you encountered this before?
