How to rename a category

Hi,
just a quick and hopefully easy question.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to rename a job category? I have tried looking in both Manager and Designer and have not been able to do so.

I do not really want to create a new category and then start saving the jobs from the incorrectly named category into the new (there are just too many of them), that seems to be the only real alternative right now.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Mark_E - well, the question is quick & easy. But the answer isn't what you wanted to hear :(

If your category name is quite unique then you could do an export, do a global replace in the .dsx file and re-import with the new name. That's what I did when I had a lot of jobs in a category.

Hopefully someone knows a way to do it easily from the Manager...

you can (in manager) create new category, select (ctrl+A) all jobs in old one and simple move them (using mouse) to a new category folder :)

No-one suggested updating the CATEGORY column in the underlying Repository tables. This is good, people are learning to avoid hacking the Repository, whose structure is about to change radically.

You can do a SQL update to DS_JOBS and do the same thing. Ray does not want you to go around the product like that. It is a wise thing to not do these things or at least do them when you are the only one logged in.

Besides, why would you want to go around 'hacking' DataStage internals when all it takes is a moment or two to create a new Category and then move jobs into it via the Manager? :?

Use the GUI, Luke!

The DataStage Repository is ALL GOING TO CHANGE in the very near future!

That's the main reason I'm backing off from advising people how to hack.

There is a secondary reason related to the fundamental interconnectedness of all things (in the DataStage Repository) - for example, to change a category correctly ought also to involved at least checking, if not rebuilding, the index on CATEGORY in the relevant table(s).

When switched between View-"Extended Job View" , it lets you move the jobs !

In other words, if you have the 'Extended Job View' option enabled - turn it off.
