Basic function LOCATE

Can some one help me ,what does the LOCATE function do , unfortunatley
i could not find under basic functions .

Check the Basic.pdf documentation that was installed with your client software. It would be in the 'Docs' directory under your 'DataStage' directory. The description of the LOCATE function can be found there.

Please note that, despite having parentheses in one of its syntactic variations, LOCATE is a statement, not a function in DataStage.
