Are you asking about DataStage Server instance on Unix or the multiple node (instance) concept in PX?

Hi,
In Datastage Server Edition creating an instance is nothing but running a same job concurrently. This is done by either using a key value or by an ID with the job. Please let us know what instance you are talking abt.

But wait, there's more!

All design objects are exactly that. When you put a design object (a stage or a link) onto a design canvas, you are instantiating an object of that class. So, when you look at the stage types division of the Repository, you see names like CTransformerStage, which means "the class of Transformer stage type", from which all Transformer stages in job designs are instantiated and inherit a fundamental set of methods and properties.

In partuicular, the methods for each stage type are inherited - you do not affect the methods at all. The GUI allows you to edit some (most) of the instance's properties, and that's how you tell DataStage exactly what you want it to do at run time.
