What is the difference between log and status files?

Post by vinodlakshmanan »

In director, there are tabs to clear log and status files. What is the difference between the 2 files, besides the obvious. What content is stored in the status file that is different from that in the log file and how is the status file used

Well, not knowing the gory details of the substructure, or what you consider to be 'the obvious', this will be the Reader's Digest Condensed version.

The Status 'file' basically holds exactly that - the current status information for the job. Running, Aborted, Ran Ok... possibly even if the job is open and locked. :? You end up needing to clear that when it gets out of sync - server crash, client disconnect, when something along those lines happens and you need to reset it manually.

For example, the DataStage server crashes. You bring it back up and all jobs that were running at the time of the crash will still show 'Running' in the Director. You'd need to clear the Status information to get them back to a state where you could restart them.
