Datastage in cluster

Post by peterh »

Is it possible to configure and run Datastage server in the Microsoft Windows cluster environment? Is there some experience?
Thanks a lot in advance.

The answer at version 6 and earlier is no on Windows. Parallel jobs can execute in an MPP environment but this is not supported on Windows at version 6. Server jobs simply don't take advantage of an MPP environment.
Mike has described a backup/failover situation, but has not indicated how the two DataStage instances are kept synchronized when job designs change or are added.
In Version 7, I am led to believe, there is support for parallel jobs on Windows environment.

Mike is probably setup much like our HP (well, Compaq) Alpha cluster running Tru64. There is a single 'instance' of DataStage on shared disk, and the server can run on any single node of the cluster at a time - and fail over to any other node. The only thing we had to help it out with was to 'fail over' the crontab entries for the scheduled jobs as well.

No clue how or even if it can be done in Windows.
