What does "Validate input XML" in XML Input stage

What does "Validate input XML" in XML Input stage

I would like to find out what does "Validate input XML" in the XML Input stage does ? Please advice.

Pretty much exactly what it sounds like it would do - validate the XML against the xsd and can raise errors in the job if any of the checks fail.
