JDBC connection

Dear Gurus,
We have a requirement to read from a source which is basically JDBC. I know we can accomplish this using Java stage in Information server 8.1. However I don't see any options for JDBC. Also I couldn't find any document for JDBC connection. It would be really great if you could provide details or documentation on JDBC connection.
