We are currently running DS 6 on Unix and we have processes setup on analyst PCs to kick off DS jobs by running dsjob.exe from command prompt. We are in the process of upgrading to DS 8.1 on Windows. After we installed IS 8.1 DataStage client on user PCs, the dsjob.exe from command prompt stopped working. It gives us standard Windows error: DataStage server command line interface encountered a problem and needs to be closed with the option to either Send Error report to Microsoft or not. We did make sure that we switched to DS 6 in Multi-Client manager before running dsjob.exe from command prompt.
Does anyone have any experience with running DS 6 and 8.1 clients on the same PCs and kicking off jobs through command prompt? Are there special things that need to be setup on the PCs? I check Path environment variable and it has path to dsjob.exe for DS 6 before all DS 8.1 paths. Thanks.

If you want to kick of 8.1 jobs then you need to execute that version of dsjob - which you can do by adjusting your command and shared library search list environment variables (e.g. PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH). You would probably be wise also to switch to the actual client (using Multi Client Manager) before running dsjob from the client.
But why run dsjob from the client when you have Director?
