Ray,
I have no hard or softcopy manuals - I only have the help function on DS Administrator ... it gives UNIX servers only.

From time to time you may need to stop or restart the DataStage server engine, for example, when you want to shut down the server.

A script, uv, is provided for these purposes.

To stop the server engine, use:

# dshome/bin/uv -admin -stop

This shuts down the server engine and frees any resources held by server engine processes.

To restart the server engine, use:

# dshome/bin/uv -admin -start

This ensures that all the server engine processes are started correctly.

... Ray ...
I understand you are a 'guru' to DataStage
- but I paid good money to get straight answers
- if you have the pages you refer to - then please cut and paste them from a softcopy please or direct me to where I can get a softcopy

Your DS Client installation on your PC has manuals under the Start Menu --> Ascential-->Online Documentation. Go to the Administrator book and there's a whole chapter on recycling the engine.

I think Ray's terse answer was meant more humorously than it seems to have been delivered.

As Ken notes, the idea that you have no 'softcopy manuals' is simply incorrect. You can access them from the Start menu or you can drill down to where they live via Windows Explorer. They are all are in pdf format in the 'Docs' directory under your main client installation.

My "step by step instructions for bouncing DataStage SE" is never to do so except to change the configuration or to upgrade.

Your original post specified UNIX server, yet you complain that the help is only for UNIX servers. What's the deal with that?
