Does your DRS Stage have a very big complex Join or a view which has a very Complex Join?
If so then it will definitely hang.
Can you post the SQL Query you have in the DRS Stage?

How much is the memory (RAM) on this particular machine? And what is the difference with other machinces?
If there is no difference then try to cut out some programs that are running in the background to release some memory.

Is your client running Windows XP sp2? If so, do you have the DataStage patch installed?

Hi Ray,

Even i am facing the same error, i installed the patch for XP sp2 but nothing works out. If i try opening a DRS Stage then Datastage client just freezes and i have to end the DS client from task manager. Any help is highly appreciated. I am using DS 7.5.1 on a windows client with UNIX server having solaris OS 9.

The SP2 patch is for problems with Sequence jobs, not the DRS stage. Are you the only one having this problem? If so, I'd suggest you completely uninstall the DataStage client and then re-install it. And by 'completely', I mean with extreme prejudice:

1) Uninstall.
2) Remove any leftover Directories.
3) Use (Run...) 'regedit' to remove all traces of any 'Ascential' keywords.
4) Reboot.
5) Re-install.

Be careful with #3, if you've never used 'regedit' before you can get yourself in a World of Hurt if you use it improperly.

May I suggest that regedt32 has better key-search capability? It also has the same dangers.
