ODBC connection to Sybase

Post by hobocamp »

I know that this topic has been discussed before, but I haven't quite found the answer to my question.

I need to created an ODBC connection for DataStage to connect to a Sybase database. From researching I know that I need to edit the dsenv, .odbc.ini, and uvodbc.config files. But what I'm unclear about is whether or not I need to install the Sybase client on the Unix box in order to complete the connection. Any advice will be appreciated!

The Sybase driver is a wire driver and so does not need the client. You would need it installed for the Sybase stage however.

Thanks for the quick response. However, I'm not sure I understand the second part. Are you saying for the ODBC itself I wouldn't need the Sybase client, but for using the Sybase stage within a server job I would need the client installed? Thanks again.
