Designer freezing when opening OCI stage

Post by ecclesr »

With and existing job in designer, I am able to open all stages except the OCI stages.

When I open an OCI stage my designer window "freezes"

I am able to close the designer session via task manager, Then I am able to reopen the designer session for the job again, but the window will again freeze if I again try to open an OCI stage in th job. I have tried the same with other jobs with OCI stages and they also freeze if I try to open OCI stages

Has anyone had this problem before -what are the possibel reasons for this occuring

Thanking you all in advance

Determine if it's server or client related. If other PC's have the same problem - it's server. If it's your PC only, determine if it's project related or global. Let us know which.

Now go and release all the job locks left on the jobs you had open.

The freeze when opening OCI stages is only occurring for me - no other developers

I have tested jobs with OCI stages in two different jobs in different projects (on different servers) - both cases the designer window freezes once I open a OCI stage

Thanking you all in advance

:? Well, that doesn't make a whole lotta no sense. If it only happens on your pc... and it doesn't matter what server project you connect to... then it's an issue with your pc.

Try reinstalling the client software without uninstalling it first. Reboot. Try again, let us know.

Worst case, reinstall Windows.

Status of testing is

1. If via designer I either double click to open an OCI stage
or right click properties the designer window freezes

2. I have tried different jobs in different projects and even on different
servers - I get the same result when opening an OCI stage

3. I have removed and reinstalled datastage client on my pc
I get the same result when opening an OCI stage

4. I have logged on to a second PC which has datastage
I get the same result when opening an OCI stage

5. While logged on to the second PC I had a another user login to
datastage on the pc - get the same result when opening an OCI stage

6. The other users have no issues if they log into either pc

7. What we have found is I can open an OCI stage via Grid style
but not via Properties

Thanking you all in advance

Iam not sure about the 4th and 5th point that you have mentioned.
Do you mean to say, if you log into any PC, you cannot use it.
anyother user can access either PC.
If this is the case, check with the necessary permission of your user id in database connection. Can you able to run the job?
Can you login to the dabase using user userid?
Impossible doesn't mean 'it is not possible' actually means... 'NOBODY HAS DONE IT SO FAR'

What in the world would this have to do with not being able to open the stage in the Designer? :?

So ecclesr, it's all about your userid? If you logon to multiple machines, the OCI stage cannot be opened? However, other people can log on to your pc and it works fine?

Points 5 and 6 seem to contradict each other, but then it is early in the morning. 6 says it works fine for other users on any pc. 5 seems to say that another user got 'the same result' - I assume that means they couldn't open the OCI stage. Confusing.

In any case, time for you to call your Support provider. Ask them what in the heck is going on.

We encountered this same problem. Confirmed there were no issues for other users. Logged in to the problem pc with a different network id, problem was corrected. So we dropped and recreated the network profile of the problem id and it worked just as you said. You guys saved us a good hour or so of troubleshooting. Thanks!
