Oracle to Oracle OR anything other option

Post by altruist »

Hi,

I need to extract data from Oracle1 and have to update Oracle2 Without any transformation, direct one to one mapping.

Does it matter if I have

i) Oracle -> Flat File -> Transformer -> Oracle
ii)Oracle -> Transformer -> Oracle

Is there any necessity with regards to performance to have flat file in there??

Thanks

If no transformation is required then lose the transformer.
Use of flat file depends upon the amount of data you have. It might be helpful in case of restartability.

Why 'lose the transformer'? DataStage will just 'put it back' under the covers and I'd rather put it there myself, even if it 'does nothing'.

Try both ways, let us know. I've generally found that taking the time to land the file first and then load from that flat file is actually faster than going straight Oracle to Oracle, odd as that may sound. But there are factors that will affect that, so best for you to experiment in your environment to check for yourself.

I guess its more like the type of design a developer prefers. To me, a transformer present in the design indicates that some sort of transformation is going on. I guess thats why it was a reflex reply to get rid of the transformer. :wink:

And for myself, I prefer to never link two passive stages directly together. :D

That pesky transformer stage allows you to have a reject link.
