I have been having the same problem, IBM will not supply me with an earlier version of the ODBC connection and have now told me the Lotus ODBC connection is not supported in 8.1.

However I have now got thsi solution fropm their helpdesk.

Go in Control panel>administrative tools>services and select the dsrpcd service and enable the flag "Allow service to interact with desktop". Then please try again with the Lotus Notes ODBC version 8 driver and let me know if that makes any difference. The name of the service is "DataStage Engine Resource Service" and the executable is called dsservice.exe.

After rebooting the server thie connection has now worked.
