reading flat file problem

As specified by everybody, try viewing the data in a Hex editor.

Lets take it by steps..
Do you have a Hex editor like UltraEdit,xvi32,.... ?
If not download one. You can go for a trial version of Ultraedit as specified by John or a freeware like xvi32.
Open your file using the hex editor of your choice.
You will be able to view combination of Carriage Return and Linefeed or just Linefeed depending on where you got your file from.
Be careful, if you remove all of them you will end up getting the all your data in one line.
You need to remove only the extra ones.
Let us know what you find.
