That's ok, admitting a problem is the first step on the road to recovery. Honestly, however, I don't think that is your problem... or at least not the one we are trying to solve right now. An array size of 1 will certainly slow everything down but it won't cause the performance to degrade over time. So the transaction size check is still a legitimate course of action.
