License - Number of CPU

Post by arunpramanik »

Hi

We are trying to install 7.5x2 server on a virtual machine.
During installation we all know we need to provide number/count of CPU.

I need to know the DataStage consider which CPU count -
number of CPU of the Virtual machine or
number of CPU of the physical machine (which will host the virtual machine)

Regards
Arun

You need to provide the count you are licensed for regardless of what's actually on the server you are installing on. Virtual or otherwise.

Thanks Craig

I have a license of 4 cpu, my physical server has 8 cpu, and I am virtualising my server (making virtual machine with 4 cpu), now can I install Datasatge server (with 4 CPU license) on this virtual machine (with 4 CPU), although underlying physical machine has 8 CPU?

You can always install it. It will validate your values every time a job runs and let you know if it thinks you are out of compliance. The VM instance will only see 4 so you should be fine unless they are dual core.

It will always 'work', it will log a warning in every job run if it thinks you are out of compliance.
