Client connect issue

Post by sydphi »

Hi all,

We have one Windows client machine (XP Pro SP2) that presents "?" in the user name and project on the attach to project login prompt. This happens after the upgrade from 8.0.1 to 8.1. Has anyone encountered anything like this in any version? We have cleaned the machine and reinstalled with the same result.x

Example:
User name: Use?r
Project: datastaged/?ser

I am in process of creating new IBM pmr.

Thanks for any help.

This required cleaning the registry and reinstall. In case anyone else has problems:

1. If
available uninstall DataStage Client from Control Panel Add/Remove programs

2. Manually remove any DataStage directory left behind
(C:\ibm\InformationServer\)

3. Clean up Windows Registry for DataStage (before re-install) (from DOS
command prompt or Run Window run the command: regedit) find and delete these entries from the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ascential Software\DataStage Client
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ascential Software\DSDesign
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ascential Software\DataStage Client

4. Delete the contents of the following directories
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\IBM\DataStage\8.0.1.0
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\ds_logs

5. C:\Program Files\Common
Files\InstallShield\Universal\IBM\InformationServer

6. Re-boot the machine.

7. Reinstall

Ah... figured it would be something like that, unless 8.x totally changed the game there. Those values are stored in the client PC's registry, so what you did obviously worked but I wonder if you could have just edited the values in question to remove the question marks?
