The director refresh speed has always been the Achilles Heel in DataStage since version 0.0.0

Adding categories and putting jobs in them as well as filtering the entries displayed help refresh speeds. Cleaning up log files also helps.

How many jobs (and instances of the jobs) do you have in the view which takes a long time? Do you have categories and if so, do you have the categories view in the director active?

problem with director

HI VSI,

My Suggestion is,

1) Take a copy of your job and delete the original and rename the copy of your job to the old name. Then try running the jobs and open the director. It would solve your problem.

2)Delete all the old logs for each job in the director.

Thanks,

Warm Regards

Cleaning up logs won't help the initial display of Director in the Status view. When you check specific logs, sure, but it has nothing to do with how long it takes to just display the status of all jobs.

As Arnd notes, it's all about using Categories well and the number of jobs in whatever Category you were in the last time you were in the Director. Best to answer his questions if you need further help on the subject.

It can also be slow if you are not local to the DataStage Server - for example, if you access things via a WAN it *will* be slow, regardless.

340 jobs in a category will significantly degrade Director performance. Try to break that down into several categories (perhaps ~50 jobs per category) and you will notice a significant improvement.

I'd also still be curious if you are local to your DataStage Server or not?
