Varchar to smallint

Hi All,
.Data type of field in source is VARCHAR,But the same the field data type on target is SMALLINT.My question is :How to convert varchar to smallint.


.I've just 2months Exp on data stage.

If the contents of the VarChar() field are actually numeric, then this conversion will function correctly and implicitly.
