Upgrade Question

Post by yiminghu »

Hi,

Finally our company agrees to upgrade DataStage from 6.0 to 7.5. Because we have so many processes that use datastage, we plan to do it process by process instead of migrate everything at once.

I have a question, if does upgrading datastage from 6.0 to 7.5 require any job change? (Of course, we would do regression test on that). Can 6.0 and 7.5 run on the same server? Can 6.0 and 7.5 client toll be installed on the same PC?

Thanks a lot,

Carol

6.0 to 7.5 is a transparent upgrade. Nothing needs to be changed. The jobs will be upgraded automatically. Of course, you won't have much of the new functionality in those jobs and job sequences. But these can be added in the usual maintenance cycle.

Don't forget to export AND back up the version 6.0 system before commencing.

Both versions of the client can be installed on the same PC. You must make sure to install them in different locations using different program folders. You will also need to install Multi Client Manager, which allows you to switch between them; only one version can be active at once, as they both use the same DLL names, etc. Multi Client Manager is on the DataStage CD.

Could 7.5 and 6.0 be installed on the same server?

Yes, and it should be documented in the 7.5 Installation and Upgrade Guide pdf document.

One (at least) needs to be an "-itag" installation.
