Windows vs Unix for DS Server

Post by vnspn »

Hi,

We are currently working on 7.1 version and the DS Server is on Windows.

We are planning to move the DS Server to an UNIX box and we are exploring on advantages that it could provide. We need some explanation and good reasons to put forward our request to the infrastructure team.

Please share your experience and thoughts on what could be the advantages of moving to UNIX rather than having the server on Windows.

Thanks.

Scalability and stability. How many more do you need?

Do you currently support UNIX servers in your organization? Or would this be something new? That could be a deciding factor as well.

If you Google on Unix vs Windows, the points shown up will mostly give you the clarification. Its more into the OS performance over the Datastage performance on that specific OS.

An operating system that you need to reboot once every couple of years rather than once every couple of hours?

One that can handle files larger than 2GB (ok, 3GB with some fiddling) - like into the TB range?

Thanks for all your inputs.

Craig, yes, we do have UNIX servers for certain other applications.
