It's a three letter acronym. To the best of my knowledge it is not used in the Ascential suite of products.
My best guess would be Subject Matter Expert.
Or School of Mechanical Engineering.
Or Steamboat Model Engineers.
Or South Melbourne Eagles (a football team).
IBM Software Services Group

Could it be SMEagol you are looking at? If so, it is a common medical condition affecting DataStage developers that, over time, tends to eliminate them from the gene pool. It is caused by lack of daylight and by crooning over DS jobs (sometimes accompanied by chants of "there, my lovely" when compiling) for hours on end. There is no known cure; mainly because medical researchers feel that SMEagoled patients deserve what they get and haven't bothered searching.
Subject Matter Expert, pronounced "SHMEE". A person who has intimate knowledge of a business area, use of an end-user application, or data content. A non-technical role, someone who can explain how a business does a particular activity. Often, this person works with a technical analyst to define how a business works in a particular area so that a technical analyst can research and define how the application records and stores the particular information.
