length conversion in the datastage

Post by parvathi »

Hi all,
when i import the metadata from the oracle tables the length is being changed by four times..eg the datatype is varchar2(30 char) is converted to varchar2(120) in the datastage..

why is this happening..and how is it happening?

If my datatype and length of the column is varchar2(1000 char)

it is converted to varchar2(4000) i heard that this might cause problems while data in the database..

what should i do..??

How are you importing the metadata? Via a plug-in?

What you do is correct it by editing the metadata, sometimes you need to be smarter than the tool and clean up any little messes it makes.

Did you try importing the meta-data in both ways?

Through ODBC and through Plug-in Meta-data imports.

If you didn't, then I would suggest to check if the other makes any difference.
