I had a couple blogs about it, IBM Information Server for Dummies and the old My top ten features in DataStage Hawk and Ray had a good overview of the next release in The Product Formerly Known as Hawk.

Why don't they let me use PL/1 or LISP for transformation, either.

Not LISP. There are few enough parentheses in the world as it is!

Anyway it'd go faster if you wrote the whole thing in assembler. No, wait! Native machine code.

You'd have to ask your Account Rep for details - it is an optional module that you can purchase for DataStage that allows (from what I recall from the sales pitch) Java integration using a 'Java Transformer'. :?

Anything more than that you'd need to get from IBM.

Parallel edition does give you C++ for transformations. Microsoft SSIS will also be allowing C programming for transformations in a future version. Comparisons of server jobs versus parallel jobs shows the C++ of parallel jobs is many times more efficient so for pure performance I don't see a reason to use any other language.

I don't think it's so much about using other languages, Vincent, but rather leveraging existing assets already written in other languages. And no-one said it would be speedy.

Besides, the Java PACK is only for Server jobs IIRC.

Well, in that case you have the External Source, External Filter and External Target stages, not to mention the Execute Command activity in job sequences.

That's easy - it comes with it.

However, to tide us all over until it is actually released, there are the resources noted in Vincent's post - the second one in this thread.

If you can find someone who was at the conference, or a friendly IBMer, there are papers available for download. Lots of 'em.
