backup of jobs

Post by sarven »

i need to take backup of all the jobs which i have in V5.2 before installing a new V7.5 on the server. Does the process involve going to the DS Manager and doing the export of the whole project and saving into some folder with a .dsx extension? is this correct way to take a backup of all my jobs? My project has nearly 250 jobs and every job almost contains a hash file.

The export in DS Manager only saves design information. If you have data files in the project directory, such as hashed and sequential files, you need to make sure you back them up using the operating system mechanisms, either copies or an actual backup.

Sarven,

now you might begin to realize why the recommendation is to put all hashed files used by DataStage jobs into a different directory from the projects themselves - there is not automated way to copy all the hashed files and their contents from the project directory.
Do the files have some common portion of their name that would let you do a UNIX level selective copy/backup?

Sorry about that, I didn't consider my answer "Premium" but forgot to set it as such.

But how to do that backup of the hashed and sequential files using operating system mechanism?

How does your company backup Unix level files now? How about just using cp?
