what is invocation.

You can look up invocation in the dictionary. In the DS application, it means an ad-hoc copy of a job created at runtime. You can read the manual for more details.

Etymologically at least, invocation could be defined as putting something in the VOC file. This definition is not appropriate in the context of DataStage.
