DataStage User ID

Post by koojo »

Some of the files in the installation path of DataStage have the old user ID's to be deleted. What happens when we delete the user ID's.

Do we need to change the file owners before we delete the id's. Would it be safe to change all the files owned by the old user(user to be deleted) to dsadm.

It's safe (if you can go back easily), the DS users need to have the same primary group as dsadm.

If you drive all your security through group, user ID is largely irrelevant. Anyone can own the files. You can, of course, use chown to replace the owner. But - and it's a big but - some of the files in the DataStage engine directory (particularly in the bin subdirectory) have very specific owner requirements. Get these wrong and DataStage just doesn't work.
