installing two different version of DS client

Post by sonia jacob »

Hi,

I have been working on DS 7 server installed on a Windows OS machine. I now have Parallel extender server of version 7.5 installed on a UNIX box.

1. I believe i need a DS client of 7.5 to access the parallel extender server. Am I right?

2. Is there any way of having both the verions of the client on the same desktop. I am having issues of one version overwriting DLL (vmdsobj.dll)of the other?

Thanks.

Even thought the Job Type and OS info given are Server and Windows; this post is also about parallel and UNIX OS, too

Sonia,

There is a "multi-client manager" on the installation CD which does just that.

You need to have an id, which belongs to administrators group to start client switcher service.

Also the rule of thumb is to install in a folder with the version number like DataStage7.5 and DataStage7.1 as the folder names.

Exactly.

Install the client to two different directories but suggest you keep only one set of icons on the desktop. The MCM will switch those icons back and forth between the two versions as only one can be 'active' at any given time.

MCM also switches the registry entries.

Of course, that's the part that 'takes some time'. Just wanted to point out that - if you have the standard shortcuts on your desktop - it will automagically switch the properties of those for you to point to the currently active client version.

Something cool I didn't realise it did at first. 8)
