I have used the SHIFT-JIS map and all others , it is spitting out the records if I am trying to write to a table with the following errors:

"Unmappable characters found mapping text string (?W???w?????? ) with map (ASCII)"

Thanks,

Vinay,

if NLS is telling you that there are unmappable characters then chances are very high you do not have Shift-JIS incoming. Sometimes companies will use Gaiji characters which are not mappable as they are custom characters, but this is rarely used.

How certain are you that you Japanese Kanji are coming in correctly when using Shift-JIS? Have you actually compared the characters in source and target? I've seen cases where non-Japanese readers have thought things were working but effectively they had produced gibberish.

I think the conversion of # to ? has something to do with the default padding char in the file.
