version control

Post by srimitta »

Hi Guys,

Would some one help me in figuring out whcih version controlling is better than version control which comes with datastage, compare to such as PVCS or VSS. to vesrionize jobs for Datastage.

Thanks

Part of versioning is tracking the different versions. Part should be to show what changed. All can do the first if you create dsx or xml exports for VSS or PVCS. The intergration with the last two is manual. VC is very good at tracking the versions. It is very good at implementing or promoting these from dev, test to prod or whatever. VC works very well within the DataStage world.

What is lacking in all of these is showing you what changed. MetaStage is supposed to be able to diff to jobs imported into its repository. I have not seen this work. I hear it does work.
