Sort stage failure

Post by j.anderson@thomson.com »

While running a job, I'm getting the following error in Director:

cl1304FacProfProv00970UNET900..ContClaims.SortProv: Unix error: /ascential/projects/custtest/soP6ifya/err: Error 0

I think it's refering to temporary sort files that this sort stage uses. I've searched all over to figure out what this might mean with no luck. Any ideas?

There's a parameter in the Sort stage for temporary files and it defaults to "/tmp" I believe. Any chance you are running out of space there?

Yup. that's it :)

Those sort temp files seem huge. Are they safe to get rid of? Are there any other big files that you know are safe to remove?

They should 'age out' of /tmp, but if space is tight and your job has finished then yes, it is safe to delete them if the job doesn't clean up after itself.

As to which other 'big' files are safe to delete... only those which you know are safe to delete.

Hi,
Just wanted to note since you didn't mention what sort stage you use (as people already did in this forum)
if you use the DS Sort stage and not another plugin,
why not use the much faster OS sort command?
you'll find it much faster then the limited Stage that coems with DS.

IHTH,
