Upgrading from Version 4.11b on HPUX 11.0 to Version 7

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade from Datastage Version 4.11b on HP-UX 11 to Version 7. Has anyone tried this before and if so was it sucessful and what if any problems were encountered. Also how long did the upgrade take and were there many code changes required to existing jobs.

Hi,
your talking about a major jump of version.
first check the DS 7 release, install notes and the upgrade manual.

so many things changed since, in version 5 sequence jobs were added for one, several new stages were introduced.

I guess you need the Inner Circle guys here at least, consult your provider as well (simply for the reason your talking about a version from way back).

I guess if you didn't use a special plugins you might not have major issues, then again I might be wrong .

the basic things you need to look for is new plugin versions of the DB you use (search this forum it was covered before).

after you upgrade you might want to redesign some jobs or at least start to build new ones differently.

the current 7 version has an issue with sequence jobs but since your version had none you should have no problem there.

with basic control jobs you have the "new" crashed job status and the DSPrepareJob routine that resets a job if needed.

that is all I can think of at this time.

Hi Ger,

On Ascentials E-services web site there is a white paper describing a lot of the things you should be aware of when upgrading. Unfortuantely it is written for version 6, but I would think that the information in the white paper will apply in your situation as well.

If you have a valid support agreement you should be able to log on to and read this white paper :

I guess if you are going to upgrade to 7 you should have no problem getting all the help you need from your DS provider.
